Vehicle mounted data interceptor to deal with rumours in BD

Dhaka, Aug 7 – The government Wednesday approved a proposal to purchase a Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor for the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) through Direct Purchase Method (DPM) for the sake of national security, official news agency BSS reported on Wednesday.The approval to purchase the mobile data inceptor was given at the 12th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Cabinet Division with Finance Minister AHM
Mustafa Kamal in the chair, the report said.
Kamal told reporters after the meeting, a such Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor is very important for national security and the purchase would cost around Taka 200 crore.
He said as there is a possibility of breaching the secrecy, the government is going for the DPM method while procuring this vehicle by relaxing the financial ceiling of the Section 76 (2) of the Public Procurement Rules 2008.
Replying to a question, the Finance Minister said this Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor would not go against private secrecy and it would be a very important tool to deal with the rumors.
“We should be very careful………all measures should have to carry on to address rumors and such things,” BSS quoted the minister as saying.
The meeting also approved another proposal empowering the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) under the Ministry of Commerce to purchase essential items from the international market to meet the immediate demand, the report said.
