Lalmonirhat, Sept 21 (UNB) – Police arrested a marriage registrar for allegedly conducting the marriage of a rape victim with the rapist from Buzir Bazar area in sadar upazila of the district on Friday night.
The arrestee is Shaidul Islam, 48, a resident of Satpatki village in Sadar upazila.
Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said private tutor Shahin Alam allegedly raped the seventh grader girl around two and half month back.
Victim’s father filed a case against four, including the private tutor, with the police station on September 18 and police arrested Shahin at night.
He also lodged a complaint saying that Sadar thana SI Mainul Islam had forced his family to arrange a marriage between their daughter and rapist Shahin Alam.
Sub Inspector Mainul Islam of Sadar Police Station was transferred to Hatibandha Police Circle following the allegation and investigation in going over it, said ASP Shafiqul Islam.
Marriage registrar Shaidul Islam claimed that he was not involved in the marriage and even he knows nothing about it.
Father of the girl said that her daughter underwent abortion at a local clinic on July 25. Later he filed a complaint with the police station on August 11 and the girl was forced to marry the rapist on August 23.
