Dhaka, July 4 – Wari area of the capital will be put under lockdown for the next 21 days from Saturday to prevent the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).
All preparations for the lockdown have already been completed, councillor of ward-41 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sarowar Hossain Alo told BSS over the telephone on Friday.
Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway from Baldha Garden to Joy Kali Temple, Lalmini Road, Hare Road, War Road, Rankin Road and Nawab Road will come under lockdown, DSCC sources said.
“A total of 15 out of 17 roads have already been closed for lockdown purpose,” said the councillor.
The city corporation has been making dwellers of the area aware of the lockdown through the loudspeaker, he said, adding 100 volunteers will work here in three shifts for providing assistance to residents of Wari.
Mentioning that two booths have been set up for the COVID-19 test here, he said full-time doctor as well as ambulance will be available for emergency medical services.
On June 30, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh told reporters that Wari area will go under lockdown from 6 am on July 4 to July 25 in order stem the transmission of coronavirus which has already created havoc across the globe.
