Women’s Cricket: Mohammedan beat Abahani in opener

Dhaka, June 2 (UNB) – Dhaka Mohammedan SC got off to a flying start  in the four-team Super League of the Dhaka Premier Division Women’s Cricket beating their traditional rivals Dhaka Abahani Limited by five wickets in the opening match at BKSP ground-4 in Savar on Thursday.Abahani Limited batted first after winning the toss and scored 132 for 9 in stipulated 50 overs with opener Sharmin Supta contributing 38 runs off 62 balls, hitting four fours.Besides, Jahanara Alam (34), Sharmin Sultana (13) and Jannatul Ferdous (10) were the other main contributors for Abahani.Salma Sultana grabbed two wickets for 20 runs while Lata Mondal, Farzana Haque and Zumur Akhter took one wicket each.Chasing a target of 133 runs, Mohammedan SC scored the match-winner 134 for the loss of five wickets in 41 overs with Deepika making the team highest 39 runs off 67 ball featuring six boundaries.One down Farzana Haque, who earlier grabbed one wicket, scored 77-ball 35 runs with three boundaries and was adjudged the player of the match.Sabukun Nahar claimed two wickets for 27 runs while Sapura Islam and Jahanara Alam took one wicket each.After a recess on Friday, Mohammedan SC will play Khelaghar SKC on Saturday at the same venue.
