Women’s Hockey: Dhaka XI earn 2nd win over Kolkata Warriors

Dhaka – Bangladesh Women’s Hockey Team under the banner of Dhaka Eleven won the three-match hockey series 2-0 beating Kolkata Warriors by 3-0 goals in the 2nd match at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Thursday.Ferdous Joyeta put Dhaka Eleven ahead in the very 6th minute from a penalty corner (1-0) while Nadira doubled the margin in the 44th minute by a field goal while Nomita Karmakar, who scored a goal in the first match, sealed the fate of the match scoring 3rd goal for Dhaka Election in the 57th minute, also by a field goal.

Touring Kolkata Warriors, which reached Dhaka on Tuesday evening, will play their 3rd and last match on Saturday at 6:30 pm under floodlight against the same team at the same venue.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh Women’s Hockey team made a historic start in their first appearance in International Hockey beating Kolkata Warriors studded with players from different states by 2-0 in the first match with Shimu Aktar and Nomita Karmakar scoring one goal each.

This was the first international hockey match for Bangladesh women’s, who earlier played some local hockey matches in the 70’s and the women’s hockey was stopped from the 80’s at any level.

After a long gap, Bangladesh Hockey Federation took initiatives to restart and nurse the women’s hockey in the country, and made a memorable start beating Indian team displaying a better brand of hockey against their mighty opponents.UNB
