Women’s T20 World Cup: Bangladesh beat Pakistan in warm-up game

Dhaka — In the last warm-up game of Women’s T20 World Cup before the main event, Bangladesh Women’s beat their Pakistani counterparts by five runs at Allan Border Field, Brisbane on Thursday.

Jahanara Alam and Khadijatul Kubra took four and three wickets respectively to ensure the confidence-boosting win before the main event.

Despite this win in the warm-up game, Bangladesh’s biggest woe remains in their poor batting display.

Bangladesh won the toss and posted a moderate total of 111 for eight in 20 overs deciding to bat first. Bangladesh lost wickets on a regular basis. Two of first three batters fell for three and a duck, while the other- Murshida Khatun- posted 43 runs, team’s highest individual score.

Nigar Sultana, Fargana Haque and Ritu Moni were the other three batters to have posted two-digit scores of 13, 21 and 14 respectively.

Bangladesh lost three out of their eight wickets due to the poor running between the wickets while Aiman Anwer bagged two wickets conceding 12 runs in three overs. Aman Amin, Aliya Riaz and Sadia Iqbal took one wicket each.

In reply, Pakistan tumbled for 106 runs in 19.4 overs. Javeria Khan, Nida Dar and Aliya were the only three batters of Pakistan to have passed two-digit scores- 41, 14 and 18 respectively.

Right-arm pace bowler Jahanara took four wickets conceding 22 runs in 3.4 overs while off-break bowler Khadijatul Kubra took three for 11 in four overs.

Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun scalped two wickets conceding 28 runs in four overs.

Bangladesh will start their World Cup campaign with the game against India on February 24 at Perth. After that, they will face Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Canberra and Melbourne respectively on February 27, 29 and March 2.UNB
