Work on a 2,000-bed isolation centre at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) here for coronavirus patients is going on in full swing.
Visiting the establishment on Thursday, a UNB correspondent found that the shed of the temporary hospital has already been installed while technicians were working to set up isolation units for patients under the massive tent.
Some beds were also taken to the isolation centre for installation for the Covid-19 patients.
Technicians, who were working at the massive hospital tent, said they hope the hospital would be ready within the next one week.
On Saturday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said three new coronavirus isolation centres with 4,500 beds are being prepared in the capital.
He said the government had taken an initiative to prepare corona isolation centres at the ICCB having 2,000 beds, Dhaka North City Corporation Convention Centre with 1,300 beds and four buildings in Uttara’s Diabari area with 1,200 beds.
About 4,500 isolation beds would be prepared soon, the minister had added.
Besides, Government Mugda Hospital, National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) and some other hospitals would be prepared for treating coronavirus patients, he said.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed 1,572 coronavirus cases and 60 deaths from the highly contagious virus.
Of those, the country confirmed a record number of 341 positive cases and 10 deaths from the virus in a 24-hour period till Thursday.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the highly infectious disease has reached 136,032 as of Thursday afternoon.UNB
