The World Human Rights Day-
2013 was observed here on December 10 with a call for ensuring
universal human rights of every citizen and paving way for normal
growth of girl child eradicating child marriage from the society.
Manobadhikar and Poribesh Andolan (MAPA) Bangladesh in
association with a number of human rights and sociocultural
organisations, educational institutions arranged human chain and
rally in observance of the day at Katchari Bazaar in the city.
Executives and activists of MAPA, Sochetan Nagorik Committee
(SNC), Shushashoner Janno Nagorik (SJN), Bangladesh Mohila
parishad (BMP), RDRS Bangladesh, Association of Development
Organisations in Bangladesh (ADAB), ADD International, Debi
Chowdhurani Polli Unnayan Kendra (DCPUK), Sammilito Sangskritik
Jyote (SSJ), Rangpur City Corporation (RCC), teachers and
students of Begum Rokeya University and other educational
institutions participated in the programmes.

RCC Jafrin Islam Ripa, district unit General Secretary of SSJ
Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick, General of ADAB’s Rangpur
Regional Ahsan Habib Rabu, MAPA members Principal Fakhrul Anam
Benzu, Advocate Ishahaque Ali, Shamshad Begum Guenie, Nishat Ara
Begum, Abu Mahmud Shujan and Mirajul Muhsin and university
student Minhajul Islam Shakil also spoke.
A number of noted personalities, academicians, teachers,
students, NGO officials and executives, human rights activists,
civil society members, religious leaders, sociocultural and
professionals and elite participated in the discussion.
The speakers stressed for building mass social awareness on
human rights issues and called upon all concerned authorities,
intuitions and organisations to discharge their duties, from
their respective positions, with more accountability and
transparency.
They suggested for further strengthening the National Human
Rights Commission and increasing its power to ensure human rights
of every citizen involving every citizen in the society to
eradicate repression, sexual harassment, torture and violence,
