World should stand beside Rohingyas: Matia

Dhaka, Sept 4 – Bangladesh’s Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said on Sunday the world should stand beside Rohingyas and create pressure on the Myanmar government to bring them back to their own land.“Bangladesh always stands beside Rohingyas and this time it is trying its best to help them. But, we also have limitations of assets. So, the world should come forward to help in creating pressure on the Myanmar government to bring them back to their own land,” she said.
She said this while exchanging greetings with officers and employees of the Agriculture Ministry upon completion of the Eid holidays.
Matia, also a presidium member of the ruling Awami League (AL), expressed hope that the Myanmar government would take necessary measures to put an end to the sufferings of the Rohingya people.
Asked about the government’s initiative to help the Bangladeshi farmers affected by the recent flood, she said, “We are helping the flood-affected people with providing them with seeds and plants.” – Agency
