Writ filed with High Court for security of courts and judges

Dhaka, july 16 – A writ petition was filed on Tuesday with the High Court seeking its directive upon the government to ensure security of judges as well as courtrooms across the country.The writ petition was filed by a Supreme Court lawyer just a day after of a killing incident took place inside the courtroom in Cumilla raising questions about the security in courtrooms.
After filing the petition, Advocate Ishrat Hasan, told reporters, “As the wife of a judge, I am worried because of the grisly murder inside the courtroom, and that is why I have filed a petition seeking directives to provide security to all the judges and courtrooms across the country.”
In the petition, the petitioner mentioned that her husband is a judge and she is concerned with her husband’s security following the killing incident took place inside the courtroom in Cumilla on Monday.
The petitioner prayed to the HC to pass necessary order on this issue.
The HC bench led by Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan is likely to hold the hearing on the petition today (Wednesday), lawyer concerned said.
A murder accused was stabbed to death by another right before a judge and police members inside a packed courtroom in Cumilla.
The shocking incident took place on Monday in front of Judge Begum Fatema Ferdous of Cumilla Sessions Judge (third) court while the hearing in the murder case was going on.
Such an incident exposed the lack of security at the court, lawyers said after the murder.
After the incident, police formed a three-member committee to investigate how an accused could bring a knife with him to the courtroom. – Staff Reporter
