Yesteryear Bollywood heroine Neetu Singh announces comeback

After a gap of nearly eight years, yesteryear Bollywood heroine Neetu Singh Kapoor is all set to stage a comeback in films.

The 62-year-old wife of late Bollywood star Rishi Kapoor, who is currently shooting for ‘Jug Jug Jiyo’, has announced his comeback by sharing a picture from the sets of the film on Instagram. “Thank you @dharmamovies for ensuring a safe environment (on the sets of the film),” she wrote.

Her co-star Anil Kappor wrote: “So happy to have you back on set Mrs James. We all here for you and have full faith that you’ll take the screen by storm again! I’m super excited to be a part of the #JugJugJeeyo journey with you!”

Neetu made her debut as a child actress with the film ‘Suraj’ in 1966 at the age of eight.
She made her adult debut in 1973 with the film ‘Rickshawala’, and went on to appear in 50 films as the lead heroine from 1973 to 1983.

Two years after her marriage with Rishi in 1980, Neetu had quit acting. However, she made a comeback in 2009, appearing opposite her husband in the film ‘Love Aaj Kal’. Between 2010 and 2013, she acted in three films — Do Dooni Chaar, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Besharam. However, she had been completely out of Bollywood since then.

Her husband Rishi made his debut, as an adolescent, in his father Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Mera Naam Joker’ in 1970, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. As an adult actor, his first lead role was in the teen romance flick ‘Bobby’ in 1973. He is considered to be one of the most successful actors in the history of Bollywood.

Neetu and Rishi’s son Ranbir is also a Bollywood star, who made his acting debut in tragic romance Saawariya in 2007, a critical and commercial failure. Ranbir rose to prominence in his 2009 film ‘Wake Up Sid’ and romantic comedy ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’.
