Youth ODI: Bangladesh beat England by 5 wkts

Dhaka – The Young Tigers got off to a flying start in the three-match Youth ODI series beating touring England U-19 side by five wickets in the first match at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

The remaining two matches of the series will be played on January 31 and February 2 at the same venue.

The morale of hosts Bangladesh youth team is now in very high stage after beating the tourists by seven wickets in the lone T20 match in Cox’s Bazar last Sunday in addition to today’s feat.

In the first Youth ODI, visiting English Youth team batted first after winning the toss and scored a moderate total of 209 for 7 in stipulated 50 overs featuring 70 runs in the 7th wicket stand by LP Goldsworthy and LBK Hollman.

Number seven LP Goldsworthy contributed team highest 99-ball 61 runs with the help of two fours and one six, number eight batsman LBK Hollman scored 57-ball 35 runs not out hitting two boundaries while GCH Hill scored 38-ball 30 runs featuring two fours and one six.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib grabbed three wickets for 47 runs while Rakibul Hasan claimed two wickets for 41 runs and Ashraful Islam bagged one for 44 runs.

In reply, Bangladesh U-19 team scored 210 runs for the loss of five wickets in 45.5 overs featuring 82 runs in both the 2nd and 3rd wicket stands each.

One down Parvez Hossain Emon pairing with opener Prantik Nawrose Nabil scored 82 runs in the 2nd wicket stand while Emon again partnering with Mahmudul Hasan made 82 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.

Emon hammered the match-highest 80 runs off 121 balls featuring five fours and three sixes, Nabil scored 48 runs off 56 deliveries hitting six boundaries, number for Mahmudul Hasan made 52 ball 33 runs including one six, Shamim Hossain scored 13-ball 11 runs while captain Akbar Ali made 13-ball 10 runs for the home side.

TA Lammonly, Hamidullah Qadri, AW Finch and LBK Hollman took one wicket each conceding 17, 32, 49 and 55 runs respectively.

On completion of the three-match ODI series, the English U-19 Team will travel to Chattogram on February 4 to play a two-match four-day Youth Tests series from February 7-10 and February 15-18 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

The visiting team will leave for home on February 19.UNB
