Speakers in a function here on Monday stressed the need for conducting co-curricular activities to the youths side by side with their routine works to build a better and peaceful society.
“In this context, all of us should come forward with the mentality to involve the youths in the co-curricular activities including different sorts of competitions to flourish their merits to lead the society towards desired progress to address the challenges of 21st century”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a prize distribution ceremony to the members of Jubo Forum who contested in the essay writing competition on the celebration of Begum Rokeya Day-2013 organised by RDRS Bangladesh at its unit office here.
Head of Gaibandha Food Security Project for Ultra Poor Women Nazrul Gani addressed the function as the chief guest and vice president of Gaibandha Press Club Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman was present as the special guest.
With programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by coordinator of School Feeding Programme Kabir Alam, assistant agriculture office Saiful Islam, senior social development officer Abdur Rashid and a winner Shima Akter.
The speakers also urged the young girls of the forum to hold the ideal and philosophy of Begum Rokeya who is called the pioneer in establishing rights of women and eradicating superstition from the society in Indian sub continent.
Born in Pyrabond village in Rangpur district on December 09 in 1880 and died on the same day in 1932 in Kolkata, India, Begum Rokeya showed the women the enlightened path of freedom for Muslim women breaking social restrictions through her writings, they also said.
Later, the guests distributed prizes to five-winner of the Jubo Forum formed by RDRS Bangladesh.
Besides, the prizes were also distributed to ten-winner who showed their best performance under Uddyomi Tarunya programme. -BSS, Gaibandha
