Zimbabwe beat B’desh by 6 runs in 1st T20

Zimbabwe extended their winning run into the T20 series as they drew first blood with a six-run victory in the first match over Bangladesh at Bulawayo.Chasing 169, Bangladesh lost Tamim Iqbal in the first over. However, Shakib al Hasan and Shamsur Rahman kept the visitors in the game with a 118-run stand for the third wicket off just 75 deliveries. Just when both of them were running away with the game, Prosper Utseya struck to dismiss Shakib for a 40-ball 65. At this stage, Bangladesh needed 48 off the remaining 34 balls.
Bangladesh were in a spot of bother as Utseya sent back Rahman just two balls later. Rahman did well for his knock of 53.
Zimbabwe saw a chance to pull things back and before the visitors realized they lost quick wickets to put the game back in the balance. They went from 120 for one to 143 for six in the span of four overs.
Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was still at the crease, hoping to take his side through as they needed 25 runs from the 14 balls. He and Sohag Gazi kept their side in the game as they picked up 11 runs in the 18th over in which Ziaur Rahman was dismised. Rahim hit Vitori for a big six over extra cover to keep his side in the match as they needed 10 runs to win from the last over.
Tinashe Panyangara struck in the first ball to send back Rahim and scupper the chances for a Bangladesh victory. The match went till the final delivery with the visitors needing six runs off the last ball. Panayagara bowls a full delivery that hits Abdur Razzak’s pads in line to end Bangladesh’s hopes to give Zimbabwe a six-run victory.
