Zimbabweans in Sylhet to play 1st Test

Dhaka – The Zimbabwe cricket team arrived here on Thursday afternoon to play hosts Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series, which is scheduled to begin at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Saturday.Hamilton Masakadza-led Zimbabweans reached Sylhet International Airport from Chattogram around 2pm.

The hosts are already in the city after their seven-wicket win in the third and final ODI at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram (ZACS) on October 26 to complete a 3-0 sweep against the visitors.

Zimbabwe had to stay in Chattogram to play Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI in a three-day warm-up match at the ZACS, which ended in draw on October 31 after being interrupted by rain.

The Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is going to host its first Test match after its inception in 2013 and is set to become Bangladesh’s eighth Test venue.

A venue of country’s north-eastern city with a capacity of 18,000 audience, the stadium will also host its first ODI, between Bangladesh and West Indies, on December 14.

The venue has so far hosted seven T20I games, six of them during the ICC World T20 in 2014 and one in February this year between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.The second Test of the series will be held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from November 11.UNB
