1 killed in pre-UP polls clash in Savar

Savar – A man was killed and 30 others injured in a clash between the supporters of two member candidates of Kaundia union parishad (UP) in the upazila on the outskirts of the capital on Friday night.The deceased was identified as Haji Shahidullah, 60, son of late Fatik Chand, a resident of Singasa village of Kaundia UP.Shahin Mollah, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station, said a clash ensued between the supporters of Awami League-backed member candidate Saiful Islam Khan and independent candidate Atikur Rahman Khan Shanto in the area around 10pm while Atikur Rahman was holding a street rally.Shahidullah received bullet injuries and died on the spot.Meanwhile, a Jubo League leader Shah Alam and his neighbor Aslam Miah went missing as miscreants threw and threw them into the Turag river during the clash.Police arrested the AL candidate and one of his accomplices in connection with the incident.(UNB)
