Bangladesh has touched a milestone completing online birth registration of 10 crore (100 million) people on Sunday, according to a message received from the Birth and Death Registration Project of the Local Government Division.
So far more than 16 crore people (including expatriate Bangladeshis) have been covered under the birth registration project and it is expected that information on birth registration of all citizens of Bangladesh will be available online within the current year.Online birth registration is being done from over 5000 registration offices in all Union Parishads, City Corporations and Cantonment Boards, plus 28 Bangladesh missions abroad.
Birth registration has been made compulsory for obtaining machine readable passports, national identify cards and many other activities. Availability of birth registration online help the process.
Anybody can check his birth registration online by putting the 17 digit registration number and the date of birth after going to the link – http://bris.lgd.gov.bd/pub/?pg=verify_br, the message said. Those who are yet to do their birth registration have been requested to contact relevant birth registration offices. – Staff Reporter
