1101 doctors decry extrajudicial killings, state of Manna

Some 1,101 doctors in a joint statement yesterday expressed their deep concern over the ongoing political stalemate.
The statement said six people have become victims of extrajudicial killing in 24 hours on Monday but police claimed that the victims were lynched by angry mob. But it was found later that the bodies bored 64 bullets wounds raising questions in the minds of the people.The doctors also expressed their concern over putting BNP leader Rizvi Ahmed, who was suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and have had three surgeries, who has been put on remand for the fourth time in a row.
They demanded the whereabouts of Mahmudur Rahman Manna as police have declined to admit that he was arrested though his family members said he was taken away by plainclothes police in the dead of night.
The signatories to the statement included Prof Dr MA Majed, Prof Dr Abdul Bayes Bhuiyan, Prof Dr M Mobin Khan, Prof Dr Khadiza Begum, Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Miah, Prof Dr Sayeba Akhter, Prof Dr AKM Azizul Haque, Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and Prof Dr Motiur Rahman Mollah. – Staff Reporter
