14 cows missing in Daulatdia engineboat capsize

Dhaka – An engineboat, locally called trawler carrying a consignment of 22 heads of cattle capsized in the Padma River in Daulatdia upazila of Rajbari district on Sunday morning, leaving 14 cows missing, UNB news agency reported.Mohosin Uddin, in-charge of Daulatdia ferry terminal police outpost, said the Patuaria terminal bound trawler from Daulatdia with two boatmen, four traders and 22 cattle on board capsized in the river after being hit by a ferry at about 7am.
The boatmen and traders managed to swim ashore while the cattle fell into the river. This is the prime time of bringing cows and other sacrificial animals like cattle, goats and buffaloes from the countryside to cities of Bangladesh for sale before the Eid-ul-Adha in the second week of September.
Eid-ul-Adha is marked by safrice of animals and according to available information out of total salughter of animals each year in Bangladesh more than a half takes place during the Eid-ul-Adha.
After the capsize of the boat eight heads of cattle were rescued with the help of locals, 14 still remained missing at 10 am.
