16 killed in bus collision on westside of Jamuna Bridge

At least 16 people were killed and 65 others injured in a road accident at Mulibari level-crossing on the western side of Jamuna Bangabandhu Bridge approach road in Sirajganj Sadar upazila early on Sunday. The deceased could not be identified yet.Officer-in charge of westside of the Bridge police station Helal Uddin said the accident took place when a Bogra-bound bus of ‘Sabbir Paribahan’ from Chittagong collided with a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Azad Paribahan’ from Sayedpur at the level-crossing around 5am, leaving 12 people dead on the spot and 67 others injured.
The injured were taken to sadar hospital where doctors declared two of them dead.
On information, Billal Hossain, deputy commissioner of Sirajganj district, Miraj Uddin Ahmed, superintendent of Sirajganj police, and Lt Commodore Mujahid Uddin, traffic manager of Bridge division, visited the spot.
During visit, DC Billal Hossain said the local administration will provide Tk 10,000 to each family of the deceased.
Police, firefighters and officials of the Bridges Division conducted the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the local administration formed a four-member probe committee, headed by additional deputy commissioner Anwar Pasha, to investigate the incident.- Unb
