15 hurt in pre-election violence in Jhenidah

At least 15 people were injured in two separate incidents of clashes centering electioneering ahead of the union parishad (UP) election in Sadar upazila on Saturday night and Sunday morning.Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Hasan Hafizur Rahman said at least five people were injured in a clash between supporters of two member aspirants at Bara Kamarkundu village in Sadar upazila ahead of the Kalicharanpur UP election.
The two member candidates — Iqbal Hossain and Saidul Islam — were conducting their election campaign in the morning.
When the two groups reached Boro Kamarkundu village, the supporters of the member candidates locked in an altercation around 8am, leaving six people injured
On the other hand, a clash broke out between the followers of Awami League-backed chairman candidate Kabir Hossain and AL rebel candidate Rabiul Islam Rabi, who is also the incumbent chairman, of Naldanga UP in the upazila around on Saturday night.
Several chases and counter chases took place in the melee that left at least 10 people injured, the OC added.
The injured were whisked off to Sadar Hospital.
Additional policemen have been deployed in the area to ward off further trouble.
