16 students hurt in Chandpur Juba League attack

Some 16 students of a high school were injured in an attack allegedly by local Jubo League men at Bhuiyanra in Kachua upazila on Sunday.
Locals said a group of Jubo League activists demanded toll from the headmaster, Dulal Chandra Sarker, of Bhuiyanra High School on the occasion of the National Mourning Day on Saturday. He gave them Tk 1,000 to their dissatisfaction.Meanwhile, the Jubo League men went to the school on Sunday morning again after they came to know that the stipend money was being distributed among the students, and demanded fresh toll.
They assaulted the headmaster as he refused to entertain their demand again, said teachers of the school.
When the students were taking preparation to form a human chain at the school ground at noon protesting the attack on their teacher, a group of Jubo League leaders and activists appeared in the scene and beat the students with sticks.
Some 16 students suffered injuries in the beating, said witnesses.
On information, police visited the spot.
The injured students were admitted to Kachua Upazila Health Complex.- UNB
