16th Amendment verdict to be faced legally: Anusul

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said his ministry will not go for any step against Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha over the annulment of the 16th amendment to the Constitution.“Rather, the verdict will be faced legally,” he said while addressing a discussion programme in Akhaura upazila marking the National Mourning Day.

Mentioning that the posts of the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker and the Chief Justice are constitutional ones, the minister also called for exercising caution while making any comment about them.Turning to the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is fully committed to bringing them back and executing the verdict.Anisul said it does not matter what BNP says about the 16th amendment as they are not respectful to the law. “It’s stated in the 16th amendment judgment that Ziaur Rahman and Ershad turned Bangladesh into a banana republic,” he said.
