A Bangladeshi Buddhist monk who was beaten in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo and remained hospitalised for about a week there succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Officials at Colombo National Hospital said the Buddhist monk was in its Intensive Care Unit with severe head injuries, according to Sri Lankan media.
An unidentified group beat the monk with clubs on August 20 when he was in a temple in Rajagiriya on the outskirt of Colombo. However, no arrest has been made so far for the assault, but Welikada police are investigating the incident.
Another report identified the monk as Ven Tilton Barua, 28, who was residing in the vicinity of the temple. A neighbour who had seen the monk being attacked, took measures to immediately transport Ven Barua to the Accident Ward of the National Hospital.
According to the medical report, the Bangladeshi monk died due to injuries sustained as a result of being assaulted. The monk was residing at the Sri Sudharshanaramaya, Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya. – UNB
