2 days of demo to protest Khaleda’s indictment in arson case

Dhaka – BNP on Friday announced a two-day demonstration programme protesting the submission of chargesheets against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in two arson attack cases.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir declared the programmes at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, unb news agency reported.
As part of the programmes, he said the party will stage demonstrations in all district towns and divisional cities, except Dhaka, on Sunday.BNP leaders and activists will also demonstrate in Dhaka city on Monday.
“The government is implicating our leader Khaleda Zia in false cases one after another for its political gain. We think it’s also a plot to keep her away from politics. We strongly protest and condemn the submission of chargesheets in the false cases filed against her,” Fakhrul said.
He demanded the government immediately withdraw all the ‘false’ cases filed against the BNP chairperson.
Earlier on Wednesday, police submitted chargesheets against Khaleda and 26 others in two cases filed in connection with arson attacks in the city’s Darussalam area last year.
Sub-inspectors of Darussalam Police Station M Shahidur Rahman and Abdur Razzak separately pressed the charges before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in the two cases.
Khaleda has been shown ‘as order giver’ accused in the chargesheets of the two cases-one filed for criminal acts and another under the Special Powers Act.
Fakhrul alleged that the Prime Minister and the ruling party leaders keep on making indecent remarks about Khaleda Zia. “Their comments are out of political etiquette. Even, a minister demanded that she be hanged. Such comment demonstrates the government’s irresponsibility.”
He urged the ruling party leaders to refrain from making such unguarded comments.
