Dhaka – Two people were killed and seven others went missing as a boat carrying some 60-70 passengers capsized in the Shitalakhaya River at Taraganj in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur on Friday.The deceased were identified as Atique,30, and Tajen, 32, hailing from Shibpur of Narsingdi district.
Officer-in-charge of Kapasia Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique said the Taraganj bound-boat from Shibpur of Narsingdi sank in the river near Taraganj Bazar around 6:30 pm due to overloading.
All the passengers, except nine people, including Atique and Tajen, managed to swim ashore.
On information, police rushed in and recovered the bodies of Atique and Tajen from the river, the OC added. – UNB
