A court here today convicted two people and sentenced to each of them 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for engaging a minor girl at a brothel in the district.
The convicted were Moynal Haque, 46, son of Hazrat Ali of Kacharipara village of district town and Shabana, 36, daughter of late Abdus Sattar of Nilokkhia Majhipara village under Bakshiganj upazila and also a sex worker of the brothel.The court also fined Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer another 15 days more RI.According to the prosecution, the girl hailed from Dinajpur district alone went to Dhaka by a bus in late December 2013. The girl, also a class seven student of a Dakhil Madrasa in Dinajpur, got down from the bus at Gabtali Terminal in Dhaka, but trapped by a woman and was taken to Jamalpur district.Later, the convicts forcibly engaged her at the brothel.The victim’s father with the help of police rescued her from the brothel on May 18, 2004 and filed a case.Judge of the district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict. -BSS, Jamalpur
