Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged
smugglers along with gold bars weighing 1.2 kg from Putkhali border
area here on Friday.
The arrested were identified as Mofizur Rahman, 23, son of Mizanur
Rahman, and Alamgir Hossain, 24, son of Abbas Ali. Both of them hail
from Balunda village in Sharsha upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of BGB intercepted the motorcycle
of the arrested at Putkhali Bazar at noon while they were going to the
border to smuggle the gold bars to India, said Lt Col Tayeful Haque,
commanding officer of BGB Battalion-23.
Later, the members of the paramilitary force recovered the gold bars
worth Tk 60 lakh after searching their bodies, he said.
