2 ‘robbers’ held after gunfight with cops in Faridpur

Two alleged robbers, one of them woman, were arrested after a gunfight with police in Bhanga upazila on Wednesday night.
Nazmul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station, said a gang of robbers numbering four in the guise of Detective Branch (DB) police personnel intercepted a microbus carrying expatriate Shafikul Islam in the area at about 11:30 pm and took away a bag containing 27,000 Saudi riyals after taking him hostage at gunpoint.
When the robbers reached Maligram area, on information, police intercepted them.However, the hoodlums opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gunfight. Several shots were exchanged by the two sides leaving a robber named Riazul Islam injured.
Police arrested injured Riazul and Sirajum Manira alias Nabila from the spot while two other members of the gang managed to flee.
Police also recovered a microbus, jackets of DB police and handcuff from the spot.
Injured Riazul was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital under police custody. A case was filed in this connection. – UNB
