Two alleged robbers were killed and another was injured in a gunfight with police at Sathibari in Mithapukur upazila early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain, 30, hailed from Madaripur district and Ripon, 35, of Mymensingh district. Police said when a gang of robbers swooped on a petrol pump on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the upazila early Friday a patrol team of police challenged them. At one stage, the robbers fired gunshots at police prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight. Anwar and Ripon were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while another unidentified robber received bullet injuries. He injured was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Police arrested three robbers from the spot and recovered a pistol and cash Tk 1 lakh from their possession. -UNB, Rangpur
