20 fire incidents in city during nor’wester

At least 20 fire incidents took place in different areas of the city due to short circuits in electric transformers as a nor’wester blew over the capital on Sunday evening.Officials at the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters control room said all but one fire incidents were caused by sparks from short circuits in electric transformers triggered by the squall and thunderstorms.
“We’ve received massage of such 20 small fire incidents in different areas, including Banani T&T colony transformer,” inspector Atiqul Islam at the Fire Service control room told UNB.
No causalities were reported in the fire incidents, he added.
However, a big fire broke at Hasina Market in Kawran Bazar area of the city around 7:55 pm during the storm. At least 15 firefighting units are there trying to put out the blaze, he added.
