At least 20 people, including two cops, were injured in a clash between the activists of Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir at Gunoboti Bazar in Chouddagram upazila on Thursday.Quoting witnesses police said an altercation ensued between the activists of Chhatra League and Chhatra Shibir at Gunoboti Degree College over a trifling matter.
The both groups again picked up an altercation near Gunoboti Bazar at about 11 pm, triggering a clash that left 18 people injured.
On information, police rushed in and fired several rounds of bullets to disperse them. Two policemen were injured during the clash.
Later, the unruly activists set fire to a microbus and three shops and damaged 12 shops. Police arrested eight people from the spot.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
