20-Party urges people, pol parties to intensify movement

The BNP-led 20-party alliance yesterday urged all democracy-loving individuals, organisations, parties, their leaders and activists to intensify the ongoing movement to force the government to withdraw ‘its repressive black hands’.
“The government has buried the democracy by holding last year’s January 5 elections. And today they are sending the people with dissident views to the graveyards standing on that graveyard,” said BNP joint secretary Barkatullah Bulu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday from an undisclosed location, he alleged that the government is trying to throatle the ongoing movement by resorting to killing opposition leaders and activists carrying out enforced disappearance, abduction and filing false cases against them.“Movement can not be slowed down temporarily by carrying out repression and oppression such acts lead to the greater movement as history shows,” said the statement.
Referring to the incidents of enforced disappearance of Ilias Ali, Saiful Islam Hero, Chowdhury Alam and Salahuddin Ahmed, he said that now the government is declining to acknowledge their arrest and instead making cruel remarks.
“The people are becoming annoyed with the government due to it’s irresponsibility along with perverted mentality,” it said.
The alliance accused the government of filing false cases against elected mayors of city corporations, pourasabhas and chairmen upazila councils belonging to the opposition and filling their places with their own party people.
Meanwhile, convenor of Dhaka city BNP Mirza Abbas and member-secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel in a separate statement expressed their concern over taking Salahuddin Ahmed away from a residence by plainclothes law enforcers.
Demanding the return of Salahuddin to his family hale and hearty, they warned that otherwise, the consequence would not be good for the government.
The city BNP leader called upon the government to hold a dialogue immediately for holding an inclusive poll by shunning the politics of killing and enforced disappearance. – Staff Reporter
