20,000 illegal billboards removed, says DNCC mayor

Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq on Friday said they had taken steps much before the High Court to remove illegal billboards and other publicity materials from the city in order to turn it into a clean, green, smart and safe one.
While addressing a press conference at DNCC’s new proposed office at United Tower on Road-90 of Gulshan, he also sought cooperation from the city dwellers in this regard. UNB News Agency Reported.The press conference was organised following Thursday’s High Court order asking the two city corporations of the capital to remove all the unauthorised posters, banners, archways, and wipe out all writings on walls by August 22.
“We’ve already removed around 20,000 billboards. But it requires cooperation of the city dwellers as the corporation’s initiative is not enough in this regard,” he said.
Replying to a query, the DNCC mayor admitted the necessity of setting up billboards at some important city points, saying, “But it’ll be better if those are digitised ones. I’m thinking formulating a policy in this regard.”

High officials of DNCC, including its Chief Executive Officer Md Mesbahul Islam, Chief Engineer Brig Gen Md Sayeed Anwarul Islam, newly appointed Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Abdur Rajja and Chief Health Officer Brig Gen SM Saleh Bhuiyan, were also present at the press conference.
