2,05,578 children to be fed vitamin-A plus capsules in C’nawabganj

A total of 2,05,578 children would be administered vitamin-A plus capsules in Chapainawabganj district as part of the National vitamin A plus campaign on June 22.
This was revealed by Civil Surgeon of Chapainawabganj district hospital Dr. Md. Saiful Ferdous Khairul Ataturk in a press briefing today.
A simple function was arranged on the occasion at the conference room of the civil surgeon. Physicians, healthcare providers and officials, among
others, were present at the function.
Sultana, Jamalpur district nutrition coordinator and representative of UNICEF Zakir Hossain and Chapainawabganj district superintendent of Expanded
Programme on Immunization (EPI) Amirul Islam Jibon also attended the function.
At the press conference, it was revealed that a total of 24,624 children from 6 to 11 months and 1,80,954 children from 12 to 59 months would be immunized in 1,201 vaccination points in the district. The first group of children would be given blue coloured capsules and the second group of children would be given red coloured capsules.
It was further disclosed that 190 health assistants, 237 family welfare assistants and 2,402 volunteers will be engaged in the campaign.
Heath experts said that blindness problem was significantly reduced in the country through launching vitamin A plus campaign, they said less than one
percent children now suffers from blindness problem while the percentage of blindness for vitamin-A deficiency was 3.74 in 1974.
“We are feeding vitamin-A plus capsules two times. Besides, guardians should feed their children natural food including vegetables and fish to
avoid vitamin-A deficiency,” Dr Saiful added, rewports BSS from Chapainawabganj.
