22.60 lakh babies given polio vaccine in Rangpur division

Over 22.60 lakh under five (0-59 month) babies were administered with oral polio vaccine while

observing first round of the 21st December 21, official sources said.

The Directorate of Health in association with district and upazila health administrations,

pourashavas, city corporation and union parishads conducted the campaign under auspices of

the Unicef and World Heath Organisation (WHO).

A total of 62,838 volunteers, health and family planning workers and supervisors administered

two drops of oral polio vaccine to each of 22.60 lakh babies out of targeted 22.81 lakh babies at

14, 538 centres in all 58 upazilas of eight districts under the division.

“Five-day door to door searching campaign began from today and it will continue till December

26 to bring all left out babies to make the NID programme a complete success,” Divisional

Director (Health) Dr Shahadat Hossain said.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Narayan Chandra Barma launched the

programme in Rangpur division through administering two drops oral polio vaccine to a baby at

Onontapur village under Taraganj upazila in Rangpur Saturday morning.

Dr Shahadat Hossain chaired the launching ceremony of the 21st

(MR) Vaccination Campaign-2014 in Rangpur division at the village of Onontapur.

Taraganj UNO Golam Mowla, Surveillance Medical Officer Dr Shafiul Alam Shameem of the

WHO for Rangpur and Nilphamari districts, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md.

Shahjahan and Medical Officer Dr Alimul Basher were present.

Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu inaugurated the NID-2013

and Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign-2014 in RCC area at a ceremony arranged at

his Guptapara residence in the city.

Under the programme, 95,807 under-five babies were administered with two drops of oral

polio vaccine at 264 centres of 33 RCC wards in the city corporation area with the assistances of

1,320 health workers, volunteers and supervisors.

Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad formally inaugurated the NID- 2013 programme through

administering two drops oral polio vaccine to a under-five age group baby at a ceremony at

Rangpur Sadar Hospital in the city.

Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Reajul Islam, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr

Shamsul Haque and senior officials were present on the occasion.

Under the programme, 58,04,180 babies aged between 9 month and 15 years will be pushed

with MR vaccine through syringe from January 25 to February 13 next at 14, 538 centres in all
