National Immunization Programme (NID) was observed in the district

NID observed in Faridpur despite blockade.

According to Civil Surgeon (CS) of the district, yesterday’s NID achieved the target of 97 per cent

when two drops oral polio vaccine(OPV) was administered to 2,48,381 children out of set target

of 2,56,432 aged 0-59 months babies and children.

The CS said that the programme was carried out at 2100 centers of nine upazillas of the district

with 10,500 workers engaged for the very important immunisation programme to develop

immunity against wild polio virus, a dangerous disease which makes children permanently

crippled at the early age also endangering lives.

The CS further informed now the searching program will continue for further four days to

administer the left out 8051 children those who are still without administering the two drops of

OPV. CS told that during December 21 programme 15139 vials 0f OPV were used. -BSS, Faridpur

A total of 3,16,495 under five (0 to 59 month) babies were administered oral polio vaccine on

National Immunization Day (NID) held in eight upazilas of the district on December 21.

Civil Surgeon Dr Atikur Rahman Khan launched the programme at Jessore Medical College

Hospital as the chief guest.

Superintendent Yakub Ali Mullah, ADC ANM Maynul Islam and Health Department officials

were present at the programme among others.

According to the Civil Surgeon officials, some 3,16,495 babies aged 0-5 years were administered

two drops of oral polio vaccine to each in the first round of NID in the upazilas.

A total of 9,776 volunteers, 374 health assistants performed their duties at 2,444 centres.

Besides, a huge number of temporary centres were set up to immunize children at the rail and

bus stations and other places to bring all children under the programme.

Besides, a searching programme from December 22 to 26 will be conducted to bring the

dropout babies under the campaign. -BSS, Jessore
