Police arrested 24 leaders and workers of the district unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Tangramai village under Sadar upazila of the district last night.
Sources with the police said they were picked up from a house in the area.
Being informed, a team of the police from Sadar Police station conducted a raid at the house of Abdur Razzak around 11pm and nabbed the leaders and activists while holding a secret meeting, said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC), of the police station.
Police also seized some ‘jihadi’ books from the spot, reports BSS from Meherpur.
