272 BNP-men killed, 25 disappeared in 14 months, none safe: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed deep concern over the deterioration of law and order particularly at the rise of killing and enforced disappearance in Bangladesh.
“The people are suffering from sense of insecurity as the killings and the forced disappearances are occurring one after another in the broad day light. Nobody is secure in the country. Killings and enforced disappearances are occurring one after another but the law enforcing agencies cannot do anything to deal with it,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir while addressing a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on Monday.He claimed a total of 272 BNP leaders and activists have been killed and 25 others disappeared by ruling party cadres, RAB and police in 14 months from January 2013. He mentioned the abduction of five people from Narayanganj on Sunday.
The BNP leader regretted that after abduction bodies of some people are found and some of them are not traced.
He mentioned that such extra judicial killings were also occurred during 1972-74.
Fakhrul called upon the media to reveal the reasons through proper investigation as to why the incidents are taken place.
He urged the people as well as party ranks and files to get united against the killing and disappearance in all over the country.
The BNP leader also called upon the party leaders and activists to strengthen their organizational base at grassroots levels to launch tougher action against the government.
Presided over by city BNP convenor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, the rally was also addressed, among others, by party vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman, BNP chairperson’s adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Moshiur Rahman, Asaduzzmaan Ripon, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anny, Moazzem Hossen Alal, Abdus Salam and Shirin Sultana.
The rally was held as part of the countrywide programme of BNP protesting killing and disappearing of party leaders and activists and implicating them in false cases. The BNP will also observe hunger strike programme from 9:00am to 6:00pm on May 4 on the same issue.
Fakhrul further alleged that the law enforcers are working as like as the ruling party cadres. Instead of providing safety and security, they are only busy to carry out repression and oppression, he said.
He said the present government assumed power through lopsided voter less election and they would have to be forced through movement to quit power.
The BNP spokesman alleged that the government has committed crimes against humanity by carrying out killing, disappearing and repression across the country. The ruling Awami League has taken the country such a situation it just can be compared to medieval era.
Criticizing the government for implicating BNP leaders and activists in false cases, he said those who came to the meeting are bearing at least 50 cases each.
He accused the government of using anti-corruption commission to file false cases one after another by withdrawing their corruption cases.
Terming the cases filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia he said the money of Zia Orphanage Trust is in the account of the trust but a false case was filed against her. He also termed the case filed in connection with purchasing land for party office is also false
He said Tarique Rahman was acquitted by the court because his corruption charges could not be proven.
The BNP leader alleged that Tarique Rahman was implicated in August 21
grenade attack case by changing investigation officer repeatedly.
He called for building strong movement at para mohalla to force the government to quit.
Fakhrul alleged that the government taken stand against her independent and sovereignty of the country that’s why they are hatching conspiracy to cling to power by resorting to inhuman torturing on BNP leaders and activists.
Criticising the government not to allow BNP to hold rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, it is proved that thee is no democracy in the country and the government deprived them from their democratic rights.
Sadeque Hossain Khoka said the killing and forced disappearance are being occurred in patronization of the government that assumed power through a voter less polls.
He warned that they would be compelling bound to announce programme if the government does not allow them to carryout constitutional movement and the government has to face severe consequence.
Abdullah Al Noman said the government has violated the constitution by not allowing the BNP to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. – Staff Reporter
