276 thousand Govt posts lying vacant

There are some 2 75,964 posts remain vacant with different ministries and departments of public administration.
State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadek on Sunday disclosed this in Parliament while replying to a question from ruling party lawmaker Ebnamul Haque of Rajshahi-4 constituency.
She said filling of vacant posts are an ongoing process and each of the ministries and departments are active in filling the vacant posts.Replying to another question from Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Maidul Islam from Kurigram-3 constituency, the state minister informed the House that at present the number of OSD (officer on special duty) in the post of secretary, additional secretary, joint secretary and deputy secretary are 265.
Of them, three are secretaries, 46 additional secretaries, 139 joint secretaries and 77 deputy secretaries, she added.
The state minister said that there are 62 secretaries, 304 additional secretaries, 927 joint secretaries and 1,310 deputy secretaries in the public administration.
Replying another question of independent lawmaker Swapan Bhattacharya, she said the Public Service Commission (PSC) has recommended appointing of 21,855 candidates as BCS cadres between 2008 and 2014.
On a point of order, president of Bangladesh Nationalist Front Abul Kalam Azad of Dhaka-17, questioned whether Prime Minister’s special envoy and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad can issue any “do-letter” for any development work from his constituency.
