Two children were electrocuted and their rescuer was critically
injured in Khagraband Shahpara village under Badarganj upazila here
ON Friday police and local sources said.
The dead were identified as Mitu, 8, daughter of Mahfuz Ahmed and Joy,
6, son of Jeweel Mian of the same village.
The incident occurred as the two children stepped into a nearby pond
for playing and got electric shock instantly when the water of the
pond was electrified due to the operation of submersible power-driven
pump with uncovered electric cable.
The rescuer, identified as local Union Parishad member Abdur Rouf, was
also injured getting severe electric shocks at that time when he went
to salvage the kids.
Locals sent him to Badarganj Upazila Heath Complex in a critical
state. Later, he was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as
his condition deteriorated.
No case was filed in this connection, police said.
In another incident an electrician was electrocuted at a house at
Omarpur under Shibganj upazila of the district on Friday.
The victim was identified as Titumir, 28, son of Alamgir of Pukuria
village under Kansat union of the upazila.
Police said Titumir was electrocuted as he came in touch with a
live-electric wire while he was repairing an electric line in the
house. He died on the spot.
Motorcyclist killed in Rangpur road accident
A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident at Kadamtoli point on
Rangpur-Sundarganj road under Pirgachha upazila here today, police and
local sources said.
The deceased was identified as Hasmat Ali, Marketing Officer of Seven
Rings Company in Rangpur, hailed from Jhenidah district.
The accident occurred when a Rangpur-bound bus and Pirgachha-bound
motorcycle collided head-on in the area at about 11.30 am, leaving
Hasmat dead on the spot.
Being informed, Pirgachha Thana police rushed to the spot, recovered
the body and brought the situation under control as the angry mob put
barricade on the road there for sometime.
A case was filed in this connection with Pirgachha Thana, the sources added.
