3 Hefajat leaders placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday placed three leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam, arrested on Sunday night, on a two-day remand each in two cases filed over the May 5 city violence.Metropolitan Magistrate M Erfan Ullah passed the order after police produced them before his court with a 10-day remand petition in each of the case.
Those remanded are Kafrul thana unit Hefajat joint convener Maulana Mizanur Rahman, khatib of Lalbagh Shahi Mosque Maulana Imran Hazari and principal of Jamia Arabia Khademul Islam Madrasha, Mirpur, Maulana Abul Bashar.
Plainclothes police arrested the three Hefajat leaders from the city’s Mirpur area on Sunday in connection with the May 5 violence in the city.
A DB team arrested the trio from different locations of Mirpur between 6pm to 10:30 pm.
They were shown arrested in two cases filed with Motijheel Police Station over the violence took place on May 5 in the city.
DB sources said the three Hefajat leaders were arrested on the basis of information provided by Hefajat-e-Islam secretary general Junaid Babunagri during remand at the DB headquarters. UNB
