3 Inqilab journalists granted bail

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday granted bail to three journalist of the Daily Inqilab in a case filed with Wari Police Station under the Information and Communication Technology Act.
Magistrate MA Salam of the CMM Court passed the order on a bond of Tk 10,000 each. Advocate Syed Ahmed Gazi filed the bail petitions on behalf of the accused. The journalists are: News Editor Rabiullah Rabi, Deputy Chief Reporter Rafique Mohammad and Diplomatic Correspondent Ahmed Atique.On January 16, police arrested the three journalists of the daily and sealed off its printing press at RK Mission Road office in the capital. A raid was conducted after the case was lodged under the Information and Communication Act alleging that the daily published a fake and fabricated report on January 16, which allegedly tarnished the country’s image as well as the law enforcing agencies both at home and abroad.
Of the three journalists, diplomatic reporter Atique was placed on a two-day remand and on conclusion of the remand, on January 29, he made a confessional state to a Dhaka court admitting his involvement with the incident under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
However, the press was later unsealed and the items of the daily seized  were returned.
The vernacular daily published a report titled ‘Assistance of Indian forces in the joint forces’ operation in Sathkhira’ on January 16 issue. – Court Correspondent
