CHITTAGONG – Three persons including women and a young girl were killed and five others injured in separate incidents here on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Achiya Khatun, 40; Rina Begum,18, daughter of Nantu Mia, of Motizorna area under Khulshi Thana and Babu Morshaddi,20, son of Ajoy, Morshaddi, hailed from Pathargahata area under Kotwali Thana.
Achiya Khatun was killed and five others were injured as a jeep plunged into a roadside ditch on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in Shantirhat area under Patiya upazila of the district today.
Police said the accident occurred when a Patiya-bound jeep plunged into a roadside ditch after the driver lost control over the steering around 4.30pm.
Critically injured Achiya was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where attending doctors declared her dead.
Police said Rina was electrocuted while she was cooking with an electric oven in their kitchen.
In another incident, Babu received serious injuries when he fell into the Karnaphuli River from an engine boat on the same day.
Locals rescued and brought him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the sources said.
The bodies were sent to the morgue for autopsy. – BSS
