3 of a family among 5 killed in road crashes in 3 dists

Comilla – Five people, including three of a family, were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Chuadanga and Sirajganj districts on Friday.
In Comilla, three members of a family were killed and seven people injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Kalikapur area of Chouddagram upazila in the afternoon.The deceased were identified as Sikander Ali, 70, his granddaughter Fatema Begum, 9, of Laxmipur village in Sadar upazila and his sister-in-law Hosne Ara, 45, wife of Rafiqul Islam of Maizkhar village in Chandina upazila.
Police said the accident occurred round 2:30pm when a speedy Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Star Line Paribahan’ collided head on with a microbus carrying members of bridal party on their way to Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari.
Shahab Uddin, sergeant of Noa Bazar camp of Comilla Highway Police, said Sikander died on the spot while Fatema and Hosne Ara succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.
In Chuadanga, a farmer, Samir Uddin, 41, son of Jumar Ali of Shailmari village in Sadar upazila, was killed as a sugarcane-laden trolley from Kotali field hit his bicycle near the Ujalpur Bridge on Darshana-Kotali road around 10am, leaving him dead on the spot.
In Sirajganj, a pedestrian, Sohel Rana, 30, son of Nidan Khan of Tinnandina village under Salanga Police Station, was killed as a truck ran over him at Panchlia Bazar in the morning.
Officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Ali Farid Ahmed said the speeding coal-laden truck smashed Sohel standing on the Dhaka-Bogra Highway around 7am. – UNB
