30 female workers suffer burns in Savar factory fire

Savar – At least 30 female workers suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a match factory in Ashulia here on Tuesday.
Quoting workers, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Mohsinul Quader said the fire originated at a warehouse of ‘Colour Match BD’ at Jirabo-Fulbagan around 4:30pm. UNB news agency reported
Soon the fire engulfed the entire tin-roofed factory as there were huge flammable objects, including chemicals, at the factory.
On information, eight fire-fighting units rushed in and brought the fire under control around 6:30 pm.
The fire brigades along with locals rescued at least 30 injured female workers from the factory and took them to a nearby hospital.
Of them, 22 were later sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The reason behind the fire could not be known yet.
Meanwhile, police stopped vehicular movement on Jirabo-Bishmail road on security grounds.
