JU VC forced out of campus

The agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday seized the car of Vice Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain and forced him out of the campus.
As soon as Prof Anwar entered the university campus at about 9 am after paying homage to the war heroes at the National Mausoleum at Savar marking the Victory Day, the teachers seized the VC’s car and sent back him to Dhaka in the treasurer’s car.Contacted, JU Teachers’ Association (JUTA) secretary Prof Sharif Uddin said, “We had information that Prof Anwar Hossain might enter the campus on the occasion of the Victory Day. But we didn’t allow him to get into the campus.”
On December 5, the embattled VC left the campus under police escort upon directives of the government high-ups in the face of a persistent protest by the university teachers and its students.
On December 9, the teachers declared the VC persona non grata on the campus, and kept his official residence on the campus under lock and key.
Majority of JU teachers and students under the banner ‘Shikkhak-Shikkharthi-Karmokarta-Karmochari Oikya Forum’ have been demonstrating demanding resignation of Prof Anwar and immediate VC panel election to replace Prof Anwar.
They accused the VC of committing irregularities in teachers’ recruitment, spoiling teacher-student relations and misusing the university funds.
The administrative building has been kept under lock and key by the teachers demanding announcement of the date for VC panel polls.- UNB
