Police have arrested 37 militants in different areas of the country last 24 hours of nationwide anti-terror drives. Of them, 27 are members of Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), seven of Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB) and three from other militant organisations.
According to a press release issued by the Police Headquarters on Saturday, 11 JMB and JMJB members arrested from Bogra and nine from from Rajshahi, two from Kurigram and Dinajpur districts respectively and one each from Gazipur, Mymensing, Sherpur, Sirajganj, Norail, Gaibandha and Rajshahi districts respectively.One firearm, one bullet, 500 grams of gunpowder, 15 crude bombs (cocktail), 21 Jihadi books and 15 personal dairy have been seized from their possessions, the release added.
Besides, a total of 3,155 people were arrested last 24 years during the anti-terror drive, launched from Friday (June 10) following the recent killings of minority people, foreign national, writers and bloggers, allegedly committed by the militant groups.
Sources in police headquarter said that on the second day, a total of 137 person in Rajshahi including nine JMB members, 376 persons in Chittagong, 132 in Sylhet, 108 in Barishal, 117 in Rangpur including 12 Jamayat activists, 100 in both Lalmonirhaat and Feni, 89 in Bogra, 75 in Tangail, 61 in Kushtia, 57 in Norail, 48 in both Jhinaidaha and Chapainababganj, 37 in Sherpur, 33 in Lakshmipur, 31 in Gazipur, 29 in Habiganj, 27 in Pabna and 16 in Natore were arrested.
Police have also seized a total of 757 motorbikes in last 24 hours.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque ordered the police officers to conduct special anti-terror drives across the country from Friday last to stop ‘target killings’, created panic among the people especially to the minority communities like Hindu, Buddhists and Christians. – Staff reporter
