3rd contract on Rooppur NPP likely in May

Russian state-owned nuclear agency Rosatom expects to sign with Bangladesh the third and final contract for the preparatory phase in May next for the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
This was disclosed by Valeri Limarenko, Director General of NIAEP-ASE, a sister concern of Rosatom, while talking to reporters in Moscow recently.“The already singed contracts allow us to prepare the design of the plant and for which we’re conducting on-site surveys,” said Limarenko.
“Currently, we’re in discussions for the 3rd contract. After the deal is signed, we’ll start working with the Ministry of Finance for the credit line”, he added.
According to a Rosatom press release issued in Dhaka, the contract of the preparatory phase will be for the construction and installation works before the “first concrete”.
The total amount of all three contracts would be around $500 million to be given as credit to Bangladesh by Russian government.
The project drawings and specifications will create the base for licensing of the proposed Rooppur NPP, the release added.
