4 die in a road accident in Daudkandi, 60 km east of Dhaka

Four people — three members of a family and their domestic help — were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a private car at Tamta in Daudkandi upazila early Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Dr Fazlul Bari Mithu, 40, associate professor of the National Institute of Mental Health in the capital, his wife Asmaul Husna Bani, 34, their daughter Fahmida Faiza Sneha, 11, and their domestic help Shima, 21, while the injured are Mithu’s daughter Fabiha Bushra Faiza, 8, and son Arian Bari Punna, 4. They hail from Naruli village in Bogra Sadar upazila.

Sergeant Moniruzzaman, in-charge of Gauripur highway police station, said Dr Mithu along with his four family members and the domestic help was returning to Dhaka by the private car after attending a marriage ceremony in Comilla.

The car collided with a Cox’s Bazar-bound bus of ‘Unique Paribahan’ at Tamta around 2am due to poor visibility triggered by dense fog, leaving Dr Mithu, Asmaul and Sneha dead on the spot and Shima, Faiza and Arian injured.

The injured were taken to Gauripur Health Complex where Shima succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, Faiza and Arian were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
